R&D PROJECT: SMART MOBILITY
Framework for car sharing
Splash is an open and modular platform that Abinsula has developed for the management of a car-sharing system. Such a service requires a large number of control units that recognize the users, that allow to locate the vehicles and support the activities of booking, pick-up, release of vehicles and payments for their use. Moreover, it is necessary to design a computer and telematic system able to retrieve information on the status of the vehicles, useful to the car-sharing operator to perform management and monitoring operations; this requires the presence of Web applications for the control room. Specifically, the Splash platform includes the following developments: a complete hardware architecture of the car communication module and the telematic one for network access, an embedded software module for monitoring the status of the vehicle, a central server, a Web panel dedicated to the operator for user and payment management, and finally the mobile application to be provided to users who will need to access the service.
The current configuration of the architecture and the functionalities currently available make the Splash project suitable for the implementation of free-floating services, as no service station management is currently envisaged. The solution can be used for medium-large size systems and can be adopted by companies that resell their car-sharing service to private individuals, but also by companies that intend to offer a service reserved for their employees and collaborators.
