NICOLAUS was a Sardinian Regional project (POR FESR Sardegna 2014-2020 programme), coordinated by Abinsula, focused on issues related to earth observation and environmental monitoring. Nicolaus refined the technical skills to constitute an integrated platform, representing a valid reference in the sphere of agriculture 4.0. The Nicolaus platform exploits the support of local sensors (proximal sensing) and satellite technologies (remote sensing) to offer new opportunities for the evaluation of cultivated land. The use of a Decision Support System (DSS) makes the platform a decision support tool for crop management. There are many areas of application, spanning from indicating the right time for sowing and irrigation, to the assisted driving of agricultural vehicles for the improvement of fertilizer and plant protection treatments. Abinsula, together with the partners CRS4 and UNISS, collaborated to the creation of an informative web platform for precision agriculture.
Abinsula was the project coordinator and the partner that developed the informative web platform. Through the integration of data from satellites, sensors and meteorological data, the web platform gives the opportunity to manage terrains and crops. An appropriate combination of satellite data can give relevant agronomics information useful for managing extended areas. The information from sensors gives the opportunity to observe with a detailed time scale and high resolution a specific area.
